Image of the week… A deadly game of dice

22nd November 2024

A deadly game of dice.
We all like to play…perhaps we forget how to?

Remember when we circled the playground chanting in unison “Who wants to play….. stuck in the mud”? It had a hypnotic calling, and the irony that the bell would ring, with the chain of little people being formed, so large, that the game had become the calling. It reminds me of paper cut out dolls.

When I see people playing games of any kind, I am reminded of how important it it. How our human desire to unite and create is so anthropomorphic.

However, play can be dangerous, it can turn to rage, violence, and the idea of injustice can be a catalyst for disaster.
Hidden behind the delivery lorry, a group of young people exchange between partaking, and observing in a game of dowweling. We watch as the dice roll, predicting the future, imagining all the possible outcomes; the laws of probability and fate; the chances of joy or frustration. I only hope when we play we remember it is something to share not divide us. I once heard a story of a war journalist, diffusing an ambush by pulling out a football. Suddenly, the idea of play brought peace, let’s keep that vibe coming…. OAO x
